Filios Zannetos (Greek: Φίλιος Ζαννέτος) (Voutianoi, Sparta) was a Greek doctor, historian, member of the Legislative Council of Cyprus and mayor of Larnaca.[1]

Early life and education

He was born in the village of Voutianoi in Sparta. Members of his family had participated in the Greek War of Independence. After graduating with a degree in medicine he chose to come to Cyprus in 1888, and settled in Larnaca.[2]

Work

He published an important three volume work on Cypriot history, he planned an additional two volumes that were unpublished.[1]

Legacy

A bust of Zannetos is located at the church of Agios Geogios Kontos in Larnaca, it was sculpted by the Greek sculptor Ioannis Notaras (1907-2001).[3]
